Join us for a

Full Moon Bike Ride

this Friday, May 24th at 8:00pm!

Meet us at the intersection of South Blaine Street and Paradise Path in Moscow. We’ll cycle east on the Latah Trail to enjoy the light of the full moon. If the night is cloudy, decorate your bike with lights for extra fun and visibility.

This is a family-friendly event. All cycling abilities welcome!

If it rains Friday night, the ride will be canceled and be rescheduled for later in the summer.

Bike to Work Day – Friday, May 17th!

Celebrate National Bike to Work Day by stopping for free coffee and breakfast goodies from 7am-9am at the corner of 6th and Main in Moscow (in front of Maialina’s)!

The Moscow Food Co-op will also be handing out free samples and will be raffling off a basket of goodies!

Invite your friends! The more the merrier!

Bike Art Exhibit tomorrow @ City Hall

Over 250 pieces of bike art! Come see it at City Hall!

Thank you to the following schools that had Brooke come into their classrooms and do bike art with their students:

Lena – 2 classes
Russell – 2 classes
Moscow Charter – 5 classes
McDonald – 4 classes
Palouse Prairie School – 3 classes

Reception tomorrow is open to the public. Participating students are invited to find their art, write a description and be eligible to win bike bells and bike locks in the raffle.

Refreshments will be served.

Wednesday, May 8, FILL THE RACKS! and NATIONAL BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY, all K-8th grade students. Safe Routes to School Moscow encourages students to bike, walk or roll to school on Wednesday, May 8th. SR2S will be challenging schools to figure out their school’s total milage that day & giving out incentives. All schools have been entered in the National Bike to School Day drawing to win a new bike rack for their school! Is your bike collecting dust in the garage? Maybe it just needs a little TLC. Bring it to the Bike Fest for a free tune-up. Bring a bike or browse for one at the bike swap. There will also be crafts for the kids, schwag, information about bike safety, local bike organizations and more!

Tuesday, April 23, 10:00am-4:00pm, MERGE, Idaho Commons, University of Idaho. MERGE is being organized by the University of Idaho Sustainability Center and will include a free bike fix, bike registration, bike pledges, Bikes for Tikes, info about local bike organizations, and an alternative transportation car show. Free shuttle by Campus Trolley between the Intermodal Transit Center and Idaho Commons. Free hot dogs to the first 150 people from New York Johnny’s at the event!

WHAT: Bike Month Mayoral Proclamation

Dress in your brightest cycling gear to show your support when Mayor Nancy Chaney proclaims May 2013 to be Bike Month! We’ll be giving bicycle pins to everyone who attends!

Yarn Bombing 101

Learn the ins and outs of Yarn Bombing (a little history, the legality, tips and techniques) plus upcoming opportunities in our community. Takes place this Saturday, March 30 at The Yarn Underground from 1pm-2pm. $10, no supplies necessary (but bring odds and ends of yarn and large-ish needles or hooks along if you’d like).

This workshop is a great way to get started for those interested in participating in the Bicycle Yarn Bombing Project.

You Can Make 1,000 Kids Smile!

You’ve seen the pin. You’ve wondered how you can get one. If you have one, you wear it with pride.

And it always puts a smile on your face.

You can help Bike for Life Moscow share the joy with 1,000 local kids this year by helping us purchase 1,000 bicycle pins. The pins come in an assortment of fun bright colors (green, yellow, orange, pink).

So far we’ve raised $150. $50 more and we can buy 500 pins. But with all the events that we’ll be participating in this year–such as Bike Fest, Bike to Work Day and the Officer Newbill Kids Safety Fair–we expect the demand will be closer to 1,000 pins. If we raise another $200, we can buy 1,000 pins!

We need to place an order this weekend to get them in time for mid-April when the festivities start. Donations of any amount can be made via the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) online at http://www.pcei.org/payment/. Or you can write a check to PCEI and deliver it to the PCEI Nature Center at 1040 Rodeo Drive in Moscow. Be sure to note in the comments field or the memo field of the check that the donation is for bike pins.

Please make your gift by Friday, March 22!
