It’s the annual Latah Trail Breakfast Ride to Troy!  The weather forecast looks perfect for a Saturday morning bike ride.  Meet up with fellow cyclists at Old Tidyman’s at 9:00am for an enjoyable ride to Troy along the Latah Trail followed by  a delicious breakfast at The Filling Station cafe (bring your wallet).  The Filling Station cafe is offering a free ice cream cone to each Breakfast Ride participant!

Please note that this year the Old Tidyman’s (NRS) parking lot is reserved for the 5K Fun Run to China.  If you need to drive to the Breakfast Ride starting point, you will need to find another location to park your vehicle such as Eastside Marketplace.

Celebrate National Bike to Work Day by stopping for free coffee and breakfast goodies at the corner of Sixth and Main in downtown Moscow (the parking lot where the new pizza place is going to be).  Coffee provided by One World Cafe and goodies by Wheatberries and Gritman Medical Center.

Make the move to join fellow supporters of the Latah Trail.  Enjoy an evening of dining, music, dancing, good conversation and great auction items.  This fun event is held every other year and serves as the Latah Trail Foundation‘s largest fundraiser.

This slow and easy bike trip will include stops to see wildlife and to visit a playground for the kids.  If you like, continue on for lunch from 11:30-12:30 at Patty’s Mexican Kitchen (bring your wallet) – Patty’s will be giving 1 free beverage to every Tow Your Tots participant!

Meet at 9:30am at Mountain View Park (free tune-ups for participants from 9:00-9:45am at the park courtesy of Paradise Creek Bicycles.)

Join us for a special evening of poetry, music and storytelling as local cyclists of all ages share their love of pedal-power.  Children are especially encouraged to participate.  Light refreshments will be served.

If you feel nervous about public speaking, bring a drawing, photo or other artwork you have made about cycling and tell us the story about the piece.  Or bring your favorite short story or children’s book about cycling to read aloud.  Whatever you choose, the stage is yours!

As a little extra incentive, the best adult and the best child performances will each win a gift card from B&L Bicycles!).

Bike Fest could not have happened without the support from the amazing Bike for Life volunteers, the City of Moscow, Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute, Gritman Medical Center, Palouse Sprint Triathalon, Moscow on the Move, the Idaho Department of Transportation, UI Sustainability Center and Ride Idaho.

The heart of Bike Fest is always the free bike repair offered by local individuals and businesses. This year the Bike Brothers (Isaak Julye and Emmett Breedlovestrout), Crazy Jon’s Bike Repair, Follet’s Mountain Sports, and Paradise Creek Bicycles repaired over 80 bikes – for free!

Special recognition goes to Isaak Julye who got the ball rolling in 2007 and has turned it into a tradition loved by local cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Next event:  Spoke’n Word this Thursday!  6pm-7pm at BookPeople of Moscow.

Is your bike collecting dust in the garage?  Maybe it just needs a little TLC.  Or maybe you need to exchange it for a different model.  Bring it to the Bike Fest for a free tune-up by The Bike Brothers, Follett’s Mountain Sports or Crazy Jon’s Bicycle Repair.  Bring a bike or browse for one at the bike swap.  There will also be activities for the kids (face painting 9am-11am), opportunities to give input on local cycling issues, and extra bike parking (8am-1:30pm).  Register for this year’s Ride Idaho, take part in Jane’s Bike Ride at 1:30pm, and don’t forget to pick up your Farmers Market walk/bike punch card!

You may have heard about Jane’s Walk but have you heard about Jane’s Bike Ride?  The Students for Placed-Based Planning and Urban Design (SPPUD) invite you to a special bike ride to learn more about the town you live in.

Jane Jacobs was an urbanist and activist who championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building and encouraged walkability of cities. To honor her ideas during Bike Month, SPPUD will be hosting a 90-minute bike tour that will take you to locations within Moscow that exhibit Jane Jacob’s design principles.  It will highlight civic spaces, mixed-use development, cyclability, and other community design principles. It will also give you a chance to meet other community members and develop a deeper connection to your sense of place.

Bring your friends and family for a unique tour of Moscow.  Meet 1:30pm, Saturday, May 5th by the Friendship Square Fountain.  Spread the word!

If you are out and about between 7:30am – 8:30am today, please keep an eye out for kids safety on their bikes and on foot.
