Join Kevin Lilly, City Engineer and Tyler Palmer, Streets/Fleet Manager for a report on the Portland State University Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation course entitled, “Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Design and Planning” attended last fall.

The goal of the Portland training was to provide practitioners with the fundamentals of pedestrian and bicycle planning and design to integrate transit access and connections, bridges, trail crossings, and other special features for application at the City as well as providing education for the community.

Light Up the Night with your Bike!

Let’s show Moscow that winter cycling is fun! Join Bike for Life in Moscow’s Annual “Light Up the Night Parade” on Wednesday, December 7th – meet at LocoGrinz at 6:30pm (parade starts at 7:00pm).

We need a minimum of 10 people on bikes. Wear your helmets and have bike lights, of course. If you can, deck your bike with battery-operated lights in holiday colors.

One September 24, 2011, over 20 local organizations and businesses and 100 individuals participated in the “Bike for Change” Community Bike Ride and Rally (www.pcei.org/bikeforchange) as part of Moving Planet: A Day to Move Beyond Fossil Fuels.

The City of Moscow Active Living Task Force (ALTF), supported by local entities including the University of Idaho, Gritman Medical Center, Department of Health and Welfare, North Central District Health Department and Idaho Smart Growth is excited to announce iCount, a bicyclist and pedestrian count based on the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation project, bikepeddocumentation.org.

iCount will help document bicycle and pedestrian travel, usage and need for active travel investments. Join us Thursday, October 13, 2011 from to 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to count bicyclists and pedestrians at predetermined locations throughout Moscow. I’d like to invite you to count with us! If interested, please visit the City of Moscow website www.ci.moscow.id.us or call 208.883.7123. iCount training for all volunteers will take place Wednesday, October 12 from 5:30-6 pm at City Hall 206 E Third Street in Council Chambers, food and fun provided!

Bike to Work/School Day is the perfect way to jump start your resolution to commute more sustainably this year–or to reward yourself for commuting fossil-free . Stop by one of the following locations on your way to work or school:

7:00am-9:00am @ Friendship Square – Enjoy FREE coffee from Sisters’ Brew (please bring a reusable mug), munchies from Panhandle Artisan Bread Company, and bicycle cookies! We will also have bike maps, literature, free stuff and more. You can also make a pocket change donation to build a community bike rack.
8:10am-8:25am at Palouse Prairie School for Expeditionary Learning

Wow! I can’t believe “Bike for Change” is less than 4 days away! Our last planning meeting is tomorrow (Wednesday, September 21, 5:30pm-6:30pm) in the back room of One World Cafe. This should be a short but important meeting to finalize preparations for the “Bike for Change” Community Bike Ride and Rally and for the Bike to Work/School/Campus Day (www.pcei.org/bikeforchange).

Hope to see you at the meeting and/or at the bike rally!
