My $10 Yard Sale Bike
I don’t talk much about my possessions,
But this one I really like.
It surely isn’t very fancy,
it’s my ten dollar yard sale bike.
My friends say it’s too small for me,
But perhaps I’m too big for it.
Either way that’s so reason,
For them to say it’s not worth (a darn).
It has no lights, bells, or fenders,
And it lacks aluminum wheels.
But none of that really matters to me,
Or changes the way it feels.
When my bike and I are cruising,
Up and down some local trail.
With me pedaling ever harder,
And hoping the brakes won’t fail.
Sure lots of other bikers pass us,
My bike and I have no desire to race.
We just want to make it in one piece
To some pancake breakfast place.
So I don’t care if people point and make fun,
Even that little girl in her helmet so pink.
All that ever causes me to do,
Is pause, ponder and think.
Wouldn’t it be something,
If every little lass and little tyke.
Instead of a cell phone or Nintendo,
Had their own ten dollar yard sale bike.

Bike-n-smile
I laugh at people at work on cold mornings.
as they gripe about their cold car and drive
and their cold walk from the parking lot to the building.
I grin and say, “It’s so refreshing. I feel so alive!”
I ride my bike to work each morning
with a lunch time ride home mid-day
After that I’m off to work again
at 5:00 I ride home – HOORAY!!
Sometimes I pretend my bike is my horse
Just like when I was a kid.
It waits patiently for me at the bike rack
just like it always did.
I really like bike gear
especially neon green.
Some say it’s real nerdy.
I think it looks pretty keen.
PolarFleece and GoreTex layers
are two of my best friends.
Especially in the winter and spring
when it seems the cold never ends.
People tell me they see me ride
with a big smile on my face.
I wish more people rode bikes in town
We’d see more smiles all over the place.
